Why do we have a 6 page thread about obtaining pieces of armor 50% of which are junky and are replaced by other pieces of armor available through other means? When you get a piece does it magically make people like you better? Do you become cooler? Do your friends and family love you more? Will money rain down from the heavens and make you rich? Auto-entry into the video gamers HOF for all who get full set?? Infinite life? If obtaining AF2 did anyone of these things then maybe, mayyyyybeee I could see people getting all uppity. Someone please explain this. Hehe. Well said.
It does seem like most AF2 is not that exciting. At least most BLM AF2 is not that hawt. Is all AF2 like this? What do other people feel about the AF2 for their job. I'm curious.
Here's my view of BLM AF2. In order of best to I-don't-really-care.
Sorcerer's Petasos (head, Xarcabard): I think this is best piece of AF2. +10 Elem. Magic in a hat is nice. Very good for doing god stuff when you need to max out elem. magic.
Sorcerer's Sabots (feet, Jeuno): It's not that the boots are that good, it's that there's nothing better. +5 Conserve MP and +2 INT is very nice over the +5 MND that I get from my Errant boots.
Sorcerer's Coat (body, Beaucedine): Well, if you got the AF2 hat you're going to need something that gives you refresh to wear with with it. The +10 elem. magic from the hat and the +5 elem. magic from the coat is better than the Black Cloak's +8 with the same Refresh effect.
Sorcerer's Tonban (legs, Bastok): This seemed like the least interesting AF2 but with those new belts that give you the affect of fire/water/..../ice day, the "Elemental magic affected by day" thing might be worth while.
Sorcerer's Gloves (hands, Windurst): I hear that the magic burst damage effect isn't that great. I don't know first hand but there is a lot of other good items for this slot. I still use my AF1 gloves and the Zenith Mitts are very good.
So, that's my thoughts on my AF2. Two good pieces, one to round out the set, and two I don't care that much about.
So, to anyone else out there: does your AF2 suck?

Bard Cuffs: compaired to Sha'ir hands, they're garbage. -emnity and + wind, meh, but not worth getting rid of the - song cast
Bard slippers: like hands, -emnity, + skill...not worth ditching chr and haste on the sha'ir feet
Bard Roundlet: Good trade-off to the opo-opo crown. 2 less chr, and no 50 hp/mp. Up side is + song skill, - emnity, and you don't need to eat pamamas :P
Bard's Justaucorps: Worthless in xp, great for skillup/solo/etc. There is no chr, no song skill, no -emnity, and no + mp regen while healing which make several other body peices better than this in most situations. Errant for enfeebles, minstrals for buffs, Sha'ir Manteel; all these out-class the af2 body.
Bard's Cannions: When not fighting, it has the chr of errant or sha'ir, and the mp of zenith without the negative. Make sure to keep other pants around for when you plan on fighting as you'll lose all int/mnd/chr bonus while engaged. Best af2.
All-and-all, the new Bard JSE out-classes bard af2 in most ways (other than sha'ir turbon which other than haste kinda sucks) and the Sha'ir Manteel.....well /drool NOTHING beats that!

Monster Helm - This actually isn't very useful. Not even compared to the Beast Helm. Def 26, not bad. Hp+19, I don't need. Parrying skill +3, not a bad thing. Chr+4, decent but I get +5 from Panzer Mask. Charm+5, now that is pretty nice. + Charm increases the duration a monster stays charmed, and +5 is only beaten by the AF pants and AF2 body. For battle, I'll stick with my Wyvern Helm, but I might use this for charming instead of Panzer Mask since losing 1 point of chr in exchange for +5 is probably worth it.
Monster Jackcoat, body - Probably the overall most useful piece of gear. Enables wearer to eliminate any status effect on a pet. Period. It also has +6 charm and better defense than any other armor a bst can wear except Adaman Hauberk. The +hp and +int really doesn't mean much as far as I'm concerned.
Monster Trousers - These are honestly the worst piece of bst AF2. HP Recovered while Healing +3, Dex+4, Charm+2, def 34. These are useful simply for speeding up recovery while exping if you happen to be resting MP anyway. The Beast Trousers have almost the same def and add +6 to every Killer Effect. Far more useful.
Monster Gaiters, feet - These are basically an upgrade of the Beast Gaiters. They do the same thing, increase the amount of HP restored by Reward and add a small amount of +charm. These have slightly better def though, and replace the +agi with +vitality. It's really a personal choice between +vit and +dex, I suppose, as to which is the better piece of gear.
Monster Gloves - These are the the most useful piece of AF2 after the Jackcoat; they actually decrease the JA Call Beast's timer from 5 minutes to 3 minutes. Strictly situational use, Trainer's Gloves are better for almost every situation (def 22, hp/mp+20, chr+5, enmity-2), but for some BCNMs or NM battles where real pets aren't available, these are incredible. They're also the rarest piece of BST AF2 from what I can tell.

I can live without AF but keep in mind we all don't play the game for the same reasons.
One look at my completed quest log would make most people stagger. I love the cutscenes and the storys and the game content in general. To me experience points were just a means to be able to complete more of the game's content. I'm still discovering much about Vanadiel and its residents and still having fun but experience parties aren't really fun to me (this is probably why I havent put any effort into leveling another job).
I understand most people like the idea of maximizing their characters stats and such but I know some of us are also weirdos who like the corny stories and stuff too. I would love to complete my AF 2 set just cause I think it looks really cool but hey that's just me >_>.

I can live without AF but keep in mind we all don't play the game for the same reasons. I can live without AF2 as well. Although, as I've shown many times, not for very long, but I don't think that having AF2 will change that. :)
Ooh another Questmonger! Currently at 323 unique quests and counting! /joy That is impressive. Not that you've done that many quest (though that's impressive to) but that you've counted them all. :) I guess you could page through the quest log and count pages, that would make it faster.
One thing that's always bugged me: I'm going to have to get all my jobs to 60 so I can see all the plots behind the first AFs. I wish SE would make it possible for people helping to do the AF quest to see the cut scenes. This would also encourage people to help do AF quests. Although it's not in SE's best interests to make that possible. At least they made it now so I can get all the AF and still have room for other stuff.
Almost all of the PLD af2 can be replaced by something better adaman or koenig even some of the af1s are better. But its really more about having a complete set to look cool thats about it. But it is fun to collect i guess.

Yup, that's exactly how you do it - 8 per page, and scroll down with the mouse wheel to count the pages, plus remainder. I keep a tally sheet for each of the categories (the 4 cities, Outlands, and Other), and a running total. The fact that I've gone through 5 different AF sets helps too.

You can get started on the AF quests at LV50. That's how I got through PLD and BLM AF quests, stopped at 50 or 51 and just teamed up with others who were doing their AF quests too.

I take back what I said about my Monster Trousers. The extra def, and +4 dex is nice in non-exp situations. Yay Monster Trousers.

Sorry, visitor from another server and had to take issue with these two points. When I am fighting hecteyes with the Monster Jackcoat and use Reward, it does not remove the paralyze effect that my pet receives. I don't have the Monster Gaiters to see if the two effects were switched around, but the Beast Jackcoat removes the paralyze effect. I am thinking that for the AF2 series, the Jackcoat is the one that raises the HP, while the Gaiters that drops in Beaucedine is the one that removes status effects. Still, I think the AF2 body looks hawt and is better for the BST.
Monster Trousers doesn't add + 6 to every Killer Effect, but is a Charm +6 and "Enhances Killer Effects." Just correcting information, but the Beast Trousers are way better then Monster Trousers. Sadly, I like wearing them cause they match :D
Love the forum by the way, been peeking over here to see all the progress you have made. Bismarck definitely isn't as far as you guys are ; ;

Your Jackcoat must be broken then, because I've removed Gravity from Flamingos in sky while wearing my Monster Jackcoat. What I've read seems to be true, jackcoat lets you erase any status effect. And the other was a not-thinking-straight because it was late. Your 'correction' wasn't neccessary or appreciated.
My post wasn't meant to be offensive, but I'll keep my mouth shut if you are so easily offended.
But hey, while I'm at it. Just got the Monster Gloves today. They do not reduce the time from 5 minutes to 3 minutes. They do not allow me to put the monster back into the jug. It looks like they just make pets stronger. Cheerio!
